Team 5 (Chiro leaders who went to Switzerland in 2014) recalls the experiences they had during their 21-day stay in different parts of Switzerland.
The Adventure Begins
April 10, 2014 (Day 1)
“Each day is an opportunity to perform one small act of bravery: taking the first bite, singing out loud, asking for help, admitting a mistake, pitching an idea, accepting a compliment, going for the prize, failing spectacularly and trying again.” Going into a journey of a lifetime is an act of bravery; we commit ourselves not just ordinary individuals who on a leisure trip but as courageous leaders of Chiro Pilipinas who will face and overcome challenges.
Switzerland is a beautiful country in the heart of Europe, abound with nature’s beauty and simple family life integrated in modern living where discipline and respect are prominent.
Nina, Simone and Alexandra from Team 4 of JuBla welcomed us with a big streamer; Swiss breads, chocolate bunnies and an acquaintance game for our first breakfast in Zurich International Airport. As we set out for our first train ride in Switzerland going to the Canton of Valais, we felt our first breeze of Swiss air, which was in fact cold as ice. We were the first team to visit Valais. First stop: Brig, where Nina and Simone live. We felt like we were at home, given the hospitality of the families; we stayed with Nina’s family for the first week.
On the same day of arrival, we hiked to visit Nina’s grandparents in the mountains near the Simplon Pass, the high cliffs and extravagant view confirmed our presence in Switzerland. Our understanding of the Swiss family became deeper when we met the grandparents. Though language was a challenge, the warm hugs and the smiles on their faces showed how welcomed we were, the degree of appreciation shown by the family after our first performance for them was heartwarming. – end of part 1
